Lovely OWLs at the FNSI......

This FNSI in February has come to an end.I have been sewing for hours and the purse for my daughter is finished :-) She has just picked it up,almost storming in and out as she is leaving early tomorrow morning at 4am.
My progress in 5 pictures:

I`m working on being focused. Glad I had this night to make one finish. Next time might be nice to do some stitchery. There are many lovely projects around me. Glad to be a quilter. Will soon show you my next finish as many exciting projects circles around me. I wish I could do them all at once ....LOL.... then I could do even more shopping!!!

The fabrics are here as you can see and so are 5! different patterns.By this afternoon I`ll make a choice which one to use.I`m making a pouch for my daughter. I know she badly needs a new one for her trip to London tomorrow afternoon.

Mother`s Day passed;no
flowers for me as they
were left in a car,
froze to death :-(
So I treated/made my-
self a nice one from
Gail P`s pattern. In
2009 I bought one of
her lovely patterns.
This is a new one of
hers,but with the
same characteristic
style of flowers.
Will be a wall-
quilt one day!

2 of a kind these two purses.The Teddy Bear on was made in 2003 and the Pink Hearts one in 2005. Now new washed and ready for use again. As our
2 Gch spent the whole weekend with us,some washing was done as well as lots of mending's.Always small holes here and there to be sewn .... LOL.

Daisy Bear quilt is being preparing for May 18th. Eline will then be 7 and bears are the best. She knows I`m doing this for her.The two of us have this big secret,just like with Kasper and the Monsters. And we are not telling anybody:-)
Both the two BOMs are from KidsQuilts.

My lavendel-hearts go to you ALL,whether in Norway or abroard.Have a HAPPY Valentine`s Day tomorrow. Here in Norway we started celebrating the 14th of February only some years back. It is nice thought though,so that`s why I send you my hearts...LOL... :-)

Please believe me when I say that I've not forgotten my SC and my DJ not to mention the TTS, working on these as well;especially a great deal in my thoughts! Must make plans for the next fortnight. Enjoy all your quilting! Hugs,Grethe.

"Dear Jane" start and Scandinavian Christmas block 1.

Super teacher Hanne is the Norwegian expert on the Dear Jane quilt. She has made the whole quilt as you may see in the background on the pic. There are of course many other suggestions what we could make if not doing the 209 blocks one:like a bag, a cushion cover,smaller Chhristmas table cloth,etc.
We are 23 quilters attending her work class;every week for 2 months.
I have almost made 3 blocks seize 4 1/2",but bound not to do the 209 blocks which is in the quilt. May be I`ll go for 10,using the fabric pack that I bought together with the book in 2010.

This was a fresh and lovely start of January 2012.During Hanne`s class I`ll have a good practice of the needle turn applique.

In November I joined
Melanie in her stitch
along of Scandinavian
Christmas.My block 1
is finished.Many more
months till December,
so hope to have the
quilt done by then.

Love the small birds on top of the reindeers. They look happy too:-)

Blue sky + a lovely sun outside.So now I`m off for a little walk.As it is frightfully cold (-19),I`ll dress accordingly and walk very fast to keep warm. Then in the afternoon I might have time to cut out one more

First of all my BLUE CHRISTMAS TREE;free pattern,first given to me on a work class with Gail Pan,second shown on Annette`s blog December 2010. I finished the stitchery in January 2011.So this small,little wall quilt will be on my wall at Christmas 2012,glad to say:-)First OPAM project in 2012.

It has been snowing a lot
lately.My DH uses his snow-
plow-er to clear our ground.

The sun came through the next day.Only 10 minutes drive for a "walk" in a fairly flat ski-track. For my Norwegian friends I`m at Ekebergsletta:o)I packed a sandwich,a chocolate and something to drink in my little waist-pouch.Fresh air gives me new energy.It did me good:-)

Lots of small children had such a good time enjoying the snow:

Lovely plant the hyacinth has come to life again after Christmas.The five flowers are blooming so lovely,matching the colour of the outside world!!

More interesting quilting news to follow in the weeks to come.I am in good company these days with "my" DEAR friend JANE,believe it or not!!! Very exciting,bound to be news of her in my next post.I am also in good company with rein-deers,monsters,owls,bears,birds,Santas,butterflies etc.etc.etc. here in my sewing room....... I am loving the time,I should accomplish a lot in the year to come;must work real hard though.

-what it looks like when preparing a RUDOLF meal.The leg bones makes an ever so good sause;not too disgusting to look at I hope!!!Mind you plenty of RUDOLFs left in the mountains.Meal for a KING,I`m sure: Reindeer joint,Brussels sprouts,Almond potatoes,cranberries(picked in the autumn)and then the lovely tasting sauce on top of it all.

See the table runner below;it was a present from Liz in the SSCS 2010,and you may also spot the YULE ELF SANTA(next to my cone-Santa) from Melanie. Big thanks again to you both:-)

We had such a nice time the 4 of us on this very 13th day of Christmas.I always make a tasty meal on the 6.of January.It is the last day(almost) when you should tidy your home from all the Christmas stuff. Everything are now deep down in boxes except 3 Santas.They will be sitting close to my sewing desk watching me all year.

Hope you like my pictures;I enjoyed posting them all. Now back to quilting and lots of cross stitches on the reindeer quilt.But plenty of time (mark my words;let`s hope I manage to make this one in 2012).

OMG... UFO-UFO-UFO everywhere .....
I really tried to be honest to admit
how many UFOs I have around in my sewing
room.But then I suddenly thought it wiser
to count my finishes from last year. Now I`m
PROUD and HAPPY to tell you that I've
finished 31 project,small and big,in 2011.
Great,and the number of all the unfinished
ones will fortunately remain be a secret!!!
... LOL ...

In my thoughts only,at the moment,the H&P pattern.That`s why I must wait showing you what I plan. Such a lovely Q to be with scraps and bigger pieces.

I have thought about Lynette Anderson`s "Scandinavian Christmas" for such a long time. Melanie has a suggestion on her blog.Please read it;may be you`d like to join! I have ordered some of the fabrics from Red Rooster,bound to be in the mailbox one of these days.I have wanted to do this quilt ever since I saw the pattern.Lots of cross stitches,a big challenge:-)

My blog book arrived the other day,from blogprint.Believe me,it looks very nice. Thanks to a lot of bloggers who suggested doing so.It`s an excellent idea.

At last,7 days on,starting the new year happy and content-not counting my Ufos,I mean! I have however a lovely little notebook where all my UFOs will be registered for a private record only :O)

This is Lynette Anderson`s Christmas Snowball Fun.I finished it and delivered it,to a friend of a friend on December 4. Not quite the snowballs Lynette have in her quilt,but this is how Jeanette wanted it. AND please check Di on her post Dec.20.She also has a heart version of the same pattern;two of a kind we are just by coincidence!

Here`s the table runner I made for my SSCS friend Illene in Australia;not posted before as it was not to be revealed till after Christmas Day:-)

Two of a kind here as well .... the table clothes ... I mean. One was made??where is the label on the backing?? about 8 years ago for my DD. The other one cut same time for my DS,who did not want any quilting in his apartment at all! He has now bought a new apartment with his lovely girlfriend. She likes a bit of quilting,so of course I finished it this Christmas (their very first one living together). Great,great. So here you see my DD - Siri,36 - and DIL(probably)Mona,26.

My MARATHON this Christmas ............

Soon Christmas Evening 2011 when everything should be ship-shape.Yes,running is the best thing to do....LOL...... My preparation for this X-mas must soon come to an end.Not there yet,but I have been baking,wrapped the presents,talked to Santa`s reindeers,and to himself!,watched my two Gch taking part in the performance of the Nutcracker,written cards,not to mention joined Arne and Carlos in a knitting "party" in a bookstore in Oslo,etc-etc. Still two Christmas stockings to make and one Christmas table cloth.Dying to open my SSCS gift as well as gifts from close blog friends and gifts from quilt friends.What a lovely time we`re in for very soon.

Relaxing after their very first performance,my two Gch: Kasper,8, was in the Christmas Party and Eline,6,was one of the little snowflakes:-)This was the "every second year"-performance at KGB Dance and Ballet School just outside Oslo.Such a lovely play to watch and to listening to the beautiful music.Do they both dream of being top dancers one day?? The picture below shows Mette and Sindre being Clara and the Prince.

KING WINTER HAS ARRIVED ........

The SNOW came down in tons yesterday,the STORM is yet to come,the Freezing cold temperature may be later, but CHAOTIC all around - YES,last night and this morning:CHAOS,except for the ones who stayed at home!

Compare this picture to the one on my last post...... LOVELY WHITE SNOW .....

My car had enough snow on it to make me work for a good half hour (where is the little house for my little car?! Well,I usually enjoy King Winter`s first snow ..... LOL .....

Nice to be inside;we burn candle lights,love the Christmas songs on the CDs and all the goodies. Two burning lights are the two Advent lights.When they all burn it`s almost time for looking for Father Christmas.The purple table cloth is my first finished project in December;on the OPAM list for this month very soon.

Have made myself a nice cup of Earl Grey,a Christmas cake is here on the plate;will be reading your blogs and get lots of new inspiration. And till next time,enjoy your sewing:o)

Here it is:the SSCS envelope has arrived. It arrived yesterday all the way from Sandy in Australia.

My second year with Chookyblue in this super Christmas gift swap,and I just love it:o)My little Gch,Eline,wanted to put
my 2 new Seminole table runners on the ground so the envelope would not be dirty!! The big light there is reflective on her jacket so that the cars may see her in the dark.

One parcel to be opened right away,that`s the ornament. The other one to be put under the Christmas tree and opened on X-mas Eve.

A lovely Santa-ornament,beautifully stitched,love the heart buttons as well as the jingle bells(laying there on the "jingle all the way" fabric:the backing of one of my table runners!).

COUNTING THE DAYS ...............

..... yes,14 days since last post. Well,I have been just as busy as you all ....LOL.... A couple of finishes,but otherwise life in general:a lot to take care of :-)

All the way back in end October joining the FNSI, I started "Seasons of the Heart" pattern by Art to Heart.You might remember seeing little quilt. Now my finish for November.

Nice close-up of what to wait for during the coming days in December.

The "aTisket aTasket" from Bunny Hill is my another finish for November month. You have seen part of it before,but thought you would like the whole wall quilt all together.

HURRAH, FINISHED :
My Tiny Town was ready to be shown on the eve of Oct. 26. One of the quilt guilds I`m a member of had their meeting. Lovely to have lots of compliments as I am very pleased with the outcome of the quilt. I reduced the seize down 25% to be able to have it up on the wall. Love the colours of Martinique range and Fresh Cottons range both MODA. The pattern is from Bunny Hill Design,and it has been a BOM for a long time! Really a bit of a struggle to keep the dates,especially for somebody who are into more than one BOM. ...LOL...

I think the quilting looks super;lots of different quilt-patterns on the blocks. Merete is so good in choosing the best possible:-) I am glad a managed to let somebody else machine quilt it. Otherwise I most certainly would have used such a long,long time getting it ready.

You know,we are into bad weather these days;grey and misty,and the temp is getting colder day by day. My temp has been warmer and warmer!! But soon
"on top of the world" again. Can`t believe I missed the work class with the famous Norwegian "AnnAka" this weekend,but I did. Fortunately my good quilt buddy Berit has a full report from the class, so you can all read about it:-)
CU soon again! My aTisket aTasket is finished too and being quilted at Merete`s. I have been checking my Christmas "this and that". Many nice thing finished and unfinished.Lots to do and so much to be looking forward to:-)

OH,almost forgot: Yes,we`re prepared for Halloween - lots of sweet,small oranges as well as small cupcakes all ready in the hall. Last year just a few turned up(glad to say) This year for sure the two grand children already on their way.Happy Halloween for those who celebrate the night more than us and Happy Quilting to you all! ...... Some spooky creatures have just been,so I had to add the picture ................. :

FNSI - last night.

Nice evening yesterday! I am sure this little wall quilt will be finished before December this year.I am in good progress. The pattern is called
"Seasons of the Heart" by Art to Heart.It was was bought many years ago.
Of course things are always taking the double time of what I plan. I finished late last night and did a wee bit this morning. Yet a lot to be done.

Off to a lunch with some quilting friends in 30 minutes.Must bring it with me in case I could do some hand sewing:-)
In the late afternoon I am looking forward to be checking on what you have been working on last night. Nice to have been part of the FNSI group. Would never have started on this little quilt otherwise! Thanks to Bobbi and Heidi.

Getting prepared for the evening!

Trying to find the fabrics from my stash;fancy that,fairly rare actually,but will be glad if this works out. Apples to eat,boxes filled with chocolate and of course a glass I definitely could fill water into if I feel thirsty! A promising evening to come,and I am bound to use more than tonight for this small wall quilt.

What I`m making? Have you guessed? Wait and see,but Christmas is about 2 months away,so I got to get cracking! Looking forward to seeing what every body are doing tonight. The local time here in Oslo is 340pm/1540

this is what we could do: drink a cup of coffee,eat a piece of my newly baked warm apple-cake with melting ice-cream, and you could help me choosing the fabrics for my TTS :D)

My neighbour`s apple tree gave lots of fruit this year.

Lovely looking,just waiting for me to pick them.

I love anything apples:jam;sauce;pie;tart;cake,crumble;"an apple a day keeps the doctor away";etc. ......

Some preparation in the kitchen,then ready for the oven.

This is it! 5 visitors or any number will be fine;more cups in the cupboard and more cakes in the freezer..... LOL ......

Over to what we like the most:quilting! Yes,lovely stitchery of the Tis The Season done. Soon on to the next step choosing the fabrics. This time I did not join the SAL group,(should have done really)having a peek now and then, yes,glad having a plan I could follow.

Have you checked the SAL group which Chookyblue has arranged. Amazingly many lovely quilts already up on the participants walls :-) The patterns are so sweet;small stitchery,only a square of 4 1/2" cut. I finished the stitchery yesterday.

Some of the fabrics were bought a long time ago. Not quite sure yet which ones to use. But my hope is that I by Boxing Day will have the quilt finished; this year or the latest by next Christmas ......LOL......

I joined Sunny`s PIF and look what she sent me: a pincushion with an embroidered G,beautifully done in blue DMC and 20 Shabby Chic mini notes.

Thanking you so much,Sunny,I love your presents;it is my first pin-cushion ever,great:-)
Soon it will be my turn in announcing a PIF,hope you all will join!

At last the final two blocks of the Tiny Town are finished.

Lots yet to be done,but at least all blocks are done. The THANK YOU CARD is for Anne Marie who is arranging a TINY TOWN group 2011/2012. I am sure by the start of 2012 the quilt will be all finished. This is what it looks like now. I love the fresh looking colours of the Martinique and Fresh Cottons ranges;bound to look nice on the wall.:-)

I have been in bed (not all day though) with flue for a couple of days. Surrounded by lots of magazines,I have enjoyed thinking about X-mas.I do know what to make for my secret friend in the SSCS. I have joined Chookyblue`s secret swap for this Christmas as well. Very excited about that.

Tiny Town, Daisy Bears and my Tuesday Group .................

Lovely trip to Blog-land yesterday,as my pc did not work properly I had just a short visit.(This happens often on Sundays). But love reading all blogs. Good ideas to adapt from many corners of the world! Now first thing first:

Finished block 7 of Tiny Town on Saturday.Gosh,does it take time!! Some-times it is really hard work being a quilter ..... LOL .... I have reduced all seizes 25%,that taking even longer time,actually.

Sewn together, block 4,5,6,7,8 and 9; "mind the gap" there in the corner,will be fixed in one way or the other till next time when I show you all the blocks together :-) Only block 1 and 2 left to do....so glad:D

NEW project on the go. Yes,I have started,all though I promised myself not to ,Is it bad??? or are you like me??? Really HOPE so ....LOL.....

This is a BOM coming all the way from New Zealand.
This Daisy Bear Quilt is done in the Garden Song range.Lovely colours,and just right for my little Gch.(so she said!!)

The Tuesday Sewing Group is a group of approx 20 lovely ladies,50+ to 80+; Meeting every week, some always and others now and then.
Working ten to two,more or less,all with our hand sewing.At home we do the machine sewing, pictures later of many lovely small and big quilts......

We share the knowledge of quilting and help each other,always. Bringing our packed lunch,taking max 30 minutes brake, as we are very busy sewing and chatting!!

Cushions,aTisket aTasket,Tiny Town,Good Laughs....

It took it`s time,but the next two cushions in use :-)

Relaxing on a sunny day in September. As their parents are away
for some days in France,we`re having them,days and nights!
Lots of fun,lots of challenges. The house looks like a mess,
probably taking a week to tidy up and getting back to normal,
but they are really super kids! We are lucky borrowing them
from time to time:-)

Yes,we did have fun while trying to organize the best pictures.

Nice pattern from Bronwyn Hayes book "Sunshine Blue".

Same hidden zipper as done before,and it works well,I think.
The other cushion was just so easy as it was made of one piece
of fabric.

a Tisket a Tasket;all 12stitched.I have decided to be using green sashing. Looking around to find the best suitable colour.May be the grass colour or a lighter one might look good.It will be such a good feeling when I finish this one,started on Nov.1.2010,which means it has been worked on for almost one year...not that I really have been counting the days!

This is Tiny Town block 7 ready to be made.Hopefully the fabrics
will cut out this evening, when Kasper and Eline is back home in
their own beds:-) I have then block 1 and 2 left of TT before I
start sewing the top together.

I will try to be a better blogger when things settles down, must be
soon I hope.

Cushion week:2 finished,2 to go!

Glad still some days left of the week. But two dead-lines tonight,
so I have been busy. Here you see the two finished cushions:

One flower nine-patch cushion is made from Liberty fabrics.
The pinwheel one is made from a Charm Pack " PomPom de Paris" from Moda

happy to tell you made some time ago from scraps.

The split nine-patch is great to make,this little table-cloth makes me
happy to look at,love some of the fabrics that I have used:

I`ll be cutting the
fabrics for the bird-
cushion tomorrow,
(after I have come
home safe from
the dentist,
that is!)

Must have some time during the weekend to sew the next very
easy one with the Kaffe Fassett fabrics. Nice fabric to lay
your head on when taking a nap :-).....

Such a lovely PIF present!
I received the table runner from Melanie
Thank you so much. Please find Melanie`s blog. See the great
Star quilt that she has made with the same lovely fabrics.

It was on Saturday that I received this envelope in
the post box.Great,great,great!!Scissors ready,cut,cut,cut ...

Lovely packed in paper and silk band together
with a sweet card:-)

Polka dot paper was cut and the pinwheel mat appeared.
Just right for the dresser in the living room :-)

Here is a little close-up of some PWs.
Super fabrics,I really like them.

Within a year it will be my turn to -Pay It Forward-.I will
let you know when the time is there. Will be working hard
as I`m into three PIFs,just so you know .... LOL

Meanwhile my Birdies are slowly growing.
Cheers to June+July+August. All the 12 months be a lovely
quilt one day!

SUCH A LOVELY TIME AMONG 1100 QUILTS ......

... at the FESTIAL of QUILTS in Birmingham;UK. I almost left on the spur of the moment and enjoyed every minute.The quilt-arena was situated far from
the big and dreadful riots in the centre of BHX.

The exhibition of quilts were the best ever people said. Looking forward to showing you some of the quilts;many beautifully sewn and stunning to look at. Back home here after a 5 day tour to England on the bench by the house.
Already thinking about 2012 .... may be .... :-)

See the duffle bag: I bought it about 20 odd years ago in England. Strange that I found the same fabric. As the handles are very worn,I can now make at least 2 new ones;bought 2 yards as I have always loved the fabric :-)

Good laughs,good food,not to mention good shopping!!! It is always lovely to visit quilt shows. Berit and I had such a good time at last year`s show:

Two finishes for July ........

At the beach early one morning last week. We stayed close to this beach during our holiday.
Great feeling,I had here just put the binding on.With the help of my 2 Gch showing you the backing of the quilts.You have seen both the tops before. But now they both are FINISHED,ready to be used and two OPAMs in July!!

Two quilts sewn through the Mystery Quilt-Along,which Konda arranged some time ago.

Moda fabrics: the blue is the Jelly Roll with the Prairie Paisley range.The other one is the Layer Cake with the Breakfast at Tiffany`s range.They both have been quilted by a longarm quilter.The blue one in loose loops and the other with butterflys and loops.Lovely done:-) by MERETE

I really must plan what to finish for next month,wee bit preasure is good,
hope I can make at least one finished product.

Sad trip into Oslo this morning,looking through the fences where the bomb went off.

Millions of flowers are put down to show our sympathy with people involved
in the tragedy.Some people go many times bringing flowers to show their respect and sympathy.

Candle lights,teddy bears,our flag as well as flags from other countries and written notes are placed all over Oslo,also everywhere in Norway. These 2 pictures are from outside our big church "Domkirken".

The mad-man went through with his plan B. We have just got to know
that his plan A was to bomb the King`s Palace as well as the labour
party building here in Oslo.
So many people are hurting tremendously,many dead,some still in
hospital very ill,and the ones that are alive have been through an
experience that might never end. Some of the youth are very young.
Praying for all involved.

The flowers will after a while be collected and left to change
into soil,then new grows. Notes will be kept and saved by the
authority together with the toys ...........

..... Not much quilting during my holiday. But I managed to sew the bindings on the Jelly Roll and the Layer Cake quilts.
To be my OPAM for July. See you tomorrow :-)

Burning a light .............

We are a country in shock from
last day happenings.People

on an island near by. A
sad,sad tragedy has taken
place in Norway.Borrowing
a web,while on holiday.
Our thoughts and prayers
are with the families that
suffer a terrible loss.

I managed to sew the duffle bag.
It really takes time,to "think twice and cut once". Sometimes you
fail too,don`t you?? Well,at last it`s sewn and ready to be given
away. My cousin picked out some Cranston double fabric I had saved
for ages.She gave me her old worn-out duffel bag,which I used as a
pattern.I added 2 pockets,but as the fabrics are the same,it is
difficult to see them.

The other two bags are presents. They are made by two friends,non
bloggers: Reidun and Marit. The bag pattern is called MEADOW by
Melly and me. And yes,I did the little purse!!! :-)

Off for a holiday tomorrow,till end of July,down south of Oslo to Tonsberg,to Tjome,then to Havna.Great place to be if the sun shines.
We have rented the same little summer house as last year,so has
my DD and family. As I said "same procedure as last year"! LOL

Wrapped in pink the envelope arrived a couple of days ago. I joined
Anne Marie
in her PIF,so it was very exciting for me to wait for the surprise.

The table runner is so beautifully sewn. It looks great on our table.

Fresh air is healthy.With
that in mind I put the
knife in the plastic bag,
and went for a walk in a
small wood close to where
we live.I had just heard
that the mushroom
"KANTARELL" had started
to pop up much earlier
than usual. They love
birch trees and hide
under old leaves and
grass.

I picked about 0,800 grams,which actually is A LOT!!! Some preparation before going into the freezer. Now I can look forward to one of my
favorite meals one of these days :-)

Hopefully tomorrow the duffle bag I keep sewing for my cousin will
be finished. Wait and see,I will show you if so. By for now ......

Third-time LUCKY - a short story about a 10-day dough.

Here the other day my Gs came with this little plastic
box + instructions. He was off for a holiday and asked
me to finish the cake. 10 days of nice work for you,
he said.It is a Spread-around-Dough and please do not eat
the cake up!!

It all started with a small portion of dough.
Not too proud showing you the result!! LOL But here it is:

Well,third-time lucky,I feel that is the right way of
telling you:
-First cake was burned.
-Second was hard as a rock.
-Third looks and smells nice,so hopefully it tastes good ....

Showing some pictures of the progress on this 10-day cake
making.I followed the sheet of explanation, day by day.
The dough grew bigger and bigger.After a while it looked
like this:

Then one day the dough was big enough to be divided:

On day 9 I should have given 3 portions away, but as
everybody close were on holiday,I was stuck with the
four doughs! So I decided to have a bash myself.

On day 10 I found all the ingredients
for the cakes:

It took me awhile to remember that last October Tudy had this
cake on her blog. It is called AMISH FRIENDSHIP BREAD.
For the last cake I used Tudy`s recipe. I will have another
go again,using bread forms next time. It was fun making actually.

a very small garden,so short it will be... lol:

Quick lunch just eaten. All the 3 numbers of Leanne`s Vignette
Magazines have arrived. Nice to be reading about Norway in her
no 3. "I was there" as I went to workclasses which she and Gail
held here. Lovely memo quilt she has made! And I`m still
reading the Distant Hours by Kate Morton. She is such an
interesting author. And waiting for the Norwegian "Quilte-
magasinet",due to arrive today.

A good scrub makes my
hands perfect for
sewing later on :-)

The pots you see with my herbs are from Holland.
My Mother bought them ages ago,nice to be useing.
I think they suit my herbs!! The chives are looking a bit
peckish,so I`ll better check the soil.

Great colour this, first time ever that I have bought the Cosoms
plant. My cousin always keeps the seeds from one year to another.
So I will try.
By the calender it is soon mid summer.
Soon our holiday is coming up. Same place as last year,
renting a little cottage down south of Oslo.
New month,new possibilities and my DH`s birthday on the 12th.
.....I think I`ll take him for a nice meal at an outdoor place
at Aker Brygge. This is a lovely place down town Oslo,by the
sea with various different places to eat.
I had a good tidying up the other day. Lots of lovely projects
crying for attention. ... I store a lot ... and enjoy the
variety! LOL

The lovely little wall quilt is back from the quilter
Merete at Sy.no It so nicely quilted!

Of the nine small blocks this blueberry one is my favorite:

At last such a good feeling to watch the BOM hanging up there on the
wall. Could have been more cheerful if I had used different colour,but
I just love the Moda`s Evening Mist range same as Lynette has used.
This has been a BOM from Siw in Trondheim.

Some days ago I joined Anne Marie Tiny Town Challenge.
Seems we are a few on that same project as well. Maybe this
is an idea for you too?? :-) We are 4 friends who get the envelope
in the mail from Antique Angels in UK. The pattern is from 2010
Bunny Hill Designs.
Here you see some finished blocks. I have reduced the seize 25%.
I do some hand stitching,but do all I manage with the machine.
The empty spaces on the wooden floor is missing blocks,but will
fill in the gaps by 2012 ... hopefully ... well,for sure ... LOL

Happy weekend here?? The sky is supposed to bring lots and lots
of rain,which means lovely time to do some stitches on block 9.
And I will put on my boots and raingear,go for a walk,get some fresh
air. Will keep me going for a long time,all my UFOs,I mean .....

My first finished product of this month.Inspired by some colours from my
"Norway in a Nutshell"-tour I bought the fabrics at Quiltehuset in
Bergen,look here.

My " Butterfly Garden" is growing slowly and the garden flowers more quickly .....

Bright sun has helped the flowers to bloom much more now than on my last posting. But no butterflies in sight yet,only on my Butterfly Garden.

Lovely lavenders are in their pots.

Here it is again the BG. Block 1 and 9 is done. Great place to
be hanging for a short time:-) lol

Still a bit left to finish on the 18 mini blocks of block 2 and 8.

The BG is a priority no 1 ......... together with all other UFOs :)))
So soon maybe in a couple of years?? Looking forward to place the quilt
on our bed. I have done 24 of the 81 mini blocks,so many more months to go before that will take place. Great to have something exciting to happen
in the future. LOL

Spring table-runner ready sewn to be used. So at last a finished monthly
project for OPAM. Stuck-away-kit for a long time,but I have meant to use it in the lounge for the spring-time this year. I bought the kit with pattern some time ago from www.annequilten.no So here it is:-)
See my flowers to be on the Rhododendrons? The buds will definitely not be shaken away by rough winds. Hope they have had enough feeding to bloom soon. They are very late this year,I think,and I am crying our for the warm sun :-)

quickly than I like.
Fortunately my cousin`s son is doing better and better. Of course he is still in the hospital and will be for a long time. My DH and I have been visiting him. Last time he had been up for a short walk:-),glad to say.

Tea is ready,biscuit and a piece of chocolate while I look at the new
book (interesting thought in my mind.....not a new project again??)

"Norway in a Nutshell" - tour ..............

Prepare yourself :-) I took 256 pictures on this interesting tour in
rain,fog,storm,thunder combined with a tiny winy blue sky and sun.

With the SAS plane 1 hour from Oslo
to Bergen,then 4 hours for the 87
of us on the ship cruising into the
fjords reaching the hotel next to
the fjord-side.

Here are lovely pictures showing you some sights. As the weather
turned out real bad at times,glad I could buy some cards as well.

How can some live this remote? Not quite easy to go shopping! We saw an interview on TV some time ago about the people living here,in the program "how remote can you live" (free translation from me). And they do
not want to move....

It was such a magnificent trip into the different fjords.The widest one "Sognefjorden" is the longest fjord in the world.
It is 1309 metres down into the bottom of the sea and the highest
mountain is also approx 1309 metres up into the sky. We also took
this interesting small train up the steep mountain,less steep than
what I expected.High up there at Myrdal station two trains met,
our train and the Oslo-Bergen train:

We looked at many great water falls. DH and I had to buy warm wool
hats as the weather was real cold:

We stayed at Leikanger Fjord Hotel. Highly recommended if you happen to pass by! Great rooms,lovely food,and of course we went with a super group of people. That counts a lot:-)

A walk-about watching some of the 80ooo fruit blossom orchards in Leikanger. Spring is very late this year,so only a few of the trees were
blooming.

However, it inspired me to buy some pinkish fabrics in one of
the quilt shops in Bergen "QuilteHuset".
As usual I am saying: soon to be a table runner :-) LOL
In fact may be 2 table runners,as I needed some blue fabrics as well!!!

I`ll be visiting my cousin`s son who at 40 had a heart attack.He was rush operated yesterday morning,a by-pass op. He changed all 4 blood veins. Doing so called fine after the operation,but of course will be in bad shape for a long time. Very,very sad.
Hope to finish an older UFO: Spring table-runner by Tuesday. That will then be my OPAM for May.

Progress of an UFO and soon a boat tip into the fjords .....

This is block no 6 of a Tisket a Tasket :-)

I have now finished 8 of the 12 blocks. I started on this in November-10,so by
October-11 may be all blocks are be done. I have not made up my mind about the
sashing and border yet. I have had a Charm Pack of the Aviary range for some years,
glad I could use it. I am using Beach House range as well. So it is a wee bit like The
Bunny Hill Design quilt. I really like the small blocks of 6 1/2" .Yes, I did reduce
the seize of this one as well.

Soon DH and I are taking a little trip called "Norway in a Nutshell".

I have wanted to take this trip for a good many years!

We are flying over to Bergen,then boarding a small ship "Westship".
The boat will take us into one of the deep fjords,where the scenery is
supposed to be wild and spectacular. Part of the tour we`ll also take
a special train "Flombanen". The train is on one of the steepest tracks
in the world, (scares me just thinking about it).
But oh....how I am looking forward to this.

Bringing some stitchery just in case,however no promises on this!!
But I am bringing my camera,so I hope to take some pics to show
you later. We have had a hailstorm/snow here in Oslo today,really
glad I follow my late Mums advice, no summer plants outside till after
17th of May :-)

Weekend report on a Tuesday ......

Progress with Tiny Town:

Here is block 4+5+6 stitched together,2 more are done,which means 4 more to do. I have reduced
the seize down 25%. You should think it would be quicker to finish,but on the contrary as some bits
are very small. I do the applique on the machine,with just a little stitching by hand. I love the fabrics
and all the life in that little town!!
I also did the half of the small May block of aTisket aTasket,sooooo sweet,
soon I will show it to you:-)

While I did some sewing my DH took care of the floor in the basement. Great work done,he is doing
a super job down there:-) Soon the room will be ready to be furnished (with mainly the old stuff that was
there before).

Then DH had to wash and clean the winter-tyres. Did you know we have got a hotel called Wheel/Tyre-hotel,where they store your tires for the season. Good idea for lots of people,that is!
As you can see behind on the picture none of my 3 Rhodod.has come out yet,waiting for the lovely pink flowers,late May or early June,I am sure as we are having lovely sun these days.

There are lots of stones from wintertime. He is very particular about everything car concerned.

It has been such a nice weekend,lazy,just lots of sewing,lots of food,really relaxing!!
My plans just around the corner are: May-block of Birdies + May-block of aTisketaTasket + 2nd block of Tis the Season + 1st block of Christmas Fun + etc.etc.etc....
---- and plans for DH ?? I know,he doesn't yet!!! LOL

Hope all the fires we hear about will be put down. In Norway parts of our country,like more around the world,has not had rain for a very long time. The fire-brigades are doing a good job,must be very difficult.

Love is still in the air ...... Watching the big and beautiful wedding yesterday,it reminded me of the last wedding I went to about 3 years ago:

When my cousin Berit married,she moved in with Oscar in his lovely apartment.

She then wanted to
change things,
(don`t we all)like
making an inviting
bedroom with light
colours.Here you see

them. It is a

were very pleased
with the result.!
If the two world famous
new wed from Saturday

Mind you:
Berit and Oscar got married at the age of 83 and 85. Great!!!
I love them dearly:-)

At the moment all my projects are rather smaller than this quilt.
I`m working steadily on bits and pieces. Nothing finished to show you yet.
Well into lots of lovely BOMs,always taking longer time than I think:)).

I have settled down in front of the TV. Our coverage of the big WEDDING has just started. I watched in 1981 as well:-)
I`ll join everybody else in wishing the lovely couple all the luck in
the world.

I am sure they will look just as lovely as my picture here!!! LOL
I made this quilt some years back. I think this little part of the 12 different squars in the quilt,is nice to show you today.

My Layer-Cake-Quilt-Along quilt top is now ready to be quilted and bound,
very soon,one of these days:-)

Well,if you love weddings,have the day off and are awake, we can all
really watch the same program on the telly,enjoying the big event in Westminster Abbey in London on this day April 29 2o11.

Peaceful...Relaxing...Sunshine from a blue sky every day...

Great holiday has just passed. In Norway lots and lots of people have at least 5 days off work. Some joining the children at school-holiday are having about 12 days off at Easter time.Very good holiday deal for some!
No snow left in my part of the country, bright sun every day for a week,lots of fresh air,nice walks in the woods! It has done me good.

This yellow one is called "HESTEHOV" ...

Here you see Lilly of the Valley,needing some more warm days.

The white-daisies at some places outside look like a white carpet.
When walking around the smell is so nice and refreshing:-)

I picked some the outside flowers,but they do not last that long inside, neither do cinnamon buns!!

Not much stitching and quilting this Easter,but as you see I am really thinking about Christmas!!

is my first block of the Tis the Season. Such a lovely pattern by
Natalie Bird. Fabrics in red and pinkish are great!

Nothing completely finished to show you right now,but boy oh boy...lots
of UFOs all around the house,so soooon one day,definitely ...... :D)

quilt will take a long time to finish,hopefully by Christmas 2012.

Easter time this year is so nice and quiet, beautiful weather predicted

Sue.The whole day was perfect!

was part of the whole day.

About 35 quilters attended the work class,and approx 65
listened to Sue during the evening. Many quilters

I love attending quilt classes,always lots to learn.
Sue was very enthusiastic and patient with us all,

I would to do the Faith,Hope and Love Quilt,a small version

and a very thin thread! I`m ready:)))

It will take longer than anticipated to say: quilted and bound. So I decided to show you the quilt top. Take a look at the 9 small,lovely wooden buttons from Lynette Andersson`s Mystery BOM.

This is it! I have used the Evening Mist range from Moda. Not sure how to quilt it,but I intend to machine quilt it myself,probably in the ditch?? I can see a space there on the wall,so I must get cracking .....

Yes,inspiration was what I needed! From my dear friend Gudrun (non
blogger) I received this lovely little wall quilt. The lady there,
just like me,is concentration on her back stitches,I know:-)

Another INSPIRATION:Leanne Beasley`s new VIGNETTE magazines arrived
from a web shop the other day.
Then I remembered: In 2009 I met Leanne and Gail,attending
their workshop. I did have a good start on the stitchery of
the Butterfly Bouquet,but never finished it at that time.

However now a new lovely little wall quilt
is finished. As you can see: the dirty
snow is melting and soon I can live up to
Leanne`s saying on the quilt!!!

WWD = World Waffle Day is today:-)

Last picture first: Below you see the "greedy-guts" helping
themselves with waffles!!!

As I was sewing this morning I heard about the WWD/International
Waffle Day on the radio. Don`t think I have ever heard about it,
but good idea to make some waffles. So said ... So done ...

I have to wait another 10 days,then I know what the pattern
for block 12 looks like. Sashing and border ... great... So keen
to to finish my "Breakfast at Tiffany`s" quilt.
Soooon,you`ll see!!!

Fortunately I did hide 2 plates,which means my DH and I can enjoy

My American Quilt Rack,Two of a Kind and Block 10 of the Layer-Cake-Quilt-Along......

I have joined a challenge with lovely
prizes. If you have a quilt rack or any
rack to hang your quilts on, you`re in.
Check the blogs of the two Norwegian

I have had my rack for many years. On it now you see my first quilt
ever "Jacob`s Ladder to the Stars" plus a quilt done in the pattern
"Sewn in Time". Sometimes I vary what is on the top of the rack.
Love showing my friends this and that when they come around for a visit :))) LOL

TWO of a KIND,Coffey and Cats:

Mug Rugs for my C&C friends,see what I mean,reversible makes it fun
to make. And they loved them:-)

Now over to the "Breakfast at Tiffany`s" quilt-soon-to-be-quilt.
This block looks a bit lonely. But only two more blocks to be
sewn and then all the 12 blocks are ready.I still love the
fabric range I chose for this Layer-Cake-Quilt-Along.
Check on Flikr to see all the variations of fabric ranges.

Yes,by May or June this block will be joined together with
the other 11 blocks with sashing and all.
Must work hard accomplish,I know......

Outside the snow is melting slowly. The sun is shining from
almost a blue sky,the temperature is just above 0,so a walk
will do me good:-) Later back to my sewing room,something
to take care of in every corner there! Yes,yes,I`m still
knitting that grey wool-jumper ........

MARCH is a happy birthday month.

Not a round number this year. But lucky me,as you can see some
of the nice presents from family and friends:flowers,boxes,mini
wall quilt,mini bag with an old! picture of me on,plastic-system
to tidy my DMC,yes,great fabrics etc.etc. Love birthdays:-)

My days are divided between stitching and knitting.
Gosh,it takes time knitting. That`s to say I take time to
finish this wool jumper. If I just could concentrate on one
thing at the time. But so difficult for me ......

Lots of Norwegian quilters are at our annual meeting this
weekend,arranged in the north of Norway. Looking forward
to be hearing lots of news when they come home again.
Bound to be an interesting meeting ... all the best ...

Every Second Counts!
My GS`s 8 birthday soon coming up,must hurry knitting quick,quick,
always knitting with love:)))

Some time ago I joined the nine patch challenge group.
This is my first 9 patch finish: a table runner for my kitchen.
The two potholders to follow.

Lots of bloggers are doing the Layer Cake Quilt Along through
Moosequilts. I was lucky to win in the draw for block 8.
Here you see the lovely gifts I received from Jovita Patchwork
Atelier. Thanks a lot,Jovita!
Showing you my block 9,and as the pattern for block 10 is out,
I will be sewing that block real soon.

For the very first time I am doing blocks with back stitch only.
Proud I am,and it is more easy than I thought. Being used to stem-
stitching it takes some effort,but will continue these 12 small
blocks for sure.Hope to try a hoop as well one day.

Finally:
I bought the fabrics and thread as well as pattern book
for the TIS THE SEASON a couple of months ago. Lovely idea
from Chookeyblue.blogspot. This time I have not joined the
Stitch-A-Long group,although very tempted. But too much
happening throughout this year,so my plan for the time
being is that the quilt will be finished and up on the
wall for sure X-mas 2012!!! This is now one of my slow
project,I have a few: called XVSP:)) ...LOL...

Up to sew a Mug Rug for a cat-lover,have picked out the fabrics,
so this will be quick!!!

SHORT SKI STORY and no Quilting..........

It is still the NORDIC SKI WORLD CHAMIONSHIPS here in
Oslo, Norway. Such a super feeling when we cheer all
the skiers,whether they win or not;-)
All Norwegians please bear over with me,I know you
watch TV or listen to the radio or may be you are
at the right place at the right time!!

I know: Keep your posts fairly short...but just now
quickly a few non-quilting pictures I like you to see.
Almost the whole of Norway are participating in joy over
the gold medals we receive just about every day:))))

Skiers are usually happy as my little GD:

But they eventually got up,receiving their medals with
big smiles:))))

This is the medal stage-scene down town at Oslo University arena.
Yesterday approx 100 ooo people joined the happy winners. Looks
like a demonstration,but just a big happy audience.

We dressed warm my non-quilter friend and I.Here we are
last Saturday.Freezing cold day but enjoying the life in
our main street,Karl Johans gate,closed for traffic during
this fortnight of the skiing events.

Nordic World Ski Champions in Oslo and I have prepared 2 sets of skies....

But in fact I gave up competing years

8 done, 4 to be sewn during the next 2 months or so. Sort of mystery
as we do not know the pattern till it is shown on the Moose`s blog.
I thought it would be nice to show you my 8 blocks of that
Layer Cake Quilt Along. Hanging there on the skies.
The winter weather here in Oslo is more pleasant these days,
cold and crisp. As the Champions are held in Oslo,so you can
all check what the weather is like in Oslo when
watching the TV. Why the flag:
1. Hurrah, I won in the drawing for my block 8,lucky me!!
I am using a Layer Cake called Breakfast at Tiffany`s
(think have told you before) 2. I also thought as Norway
arrange this Champs,nice to have our flag on the picture:-)

Still active days for me,always:-))
Lots of Boms to think about,can I ever stop signing up?
In fact I have been much stricter lately,
as lots of envelopes still seem to find their way into
the mailbox:))))

Lynette Anderson`s My Garden is moving forward. 5 blocks done,
4 to go! I love the pattern as well as the darkish Evening Mist
fabrics. Block 9 is due to arrive one of these days. So by the
summer the little quilt is bound to be finished.......

I just love the stitchery,thanks to Terry`s Treasures I knew
about this free BOM.

I am using Hunky Dori and Sunkissed,love both of the Charm Packs.
I have reduced the square to 6 1/2 " ISO 8" and the 2 1/2" to 2"
so may be later I`ll find some space on the wall for it:-)

I have never stitched on grey before,but it gives an interesting
look,I like the result. Looking forward to receiving the next
bird-block. Pattern is given free every 1 of the Month. Lots of
different birdies quilt blocks on Flickr if you care to check.

I am knitting,a wool jumper. Kasper is 8 on March 29,so
plenty of time. His old wool jacket in red there on the
picture measuring the seize. But I see he might need something
red under the one I knit to cheer it up.

Will be lots of TV watching during the coming 2 weeks,as I love
watching the ski-competition,so knitting will be OK.

I am very sorry to be learning about the earthquake in
New Zealand. Mother Nature has done some sad things
recently. The news and the pictures we see on TV is almost
unbelievable this time too. Very sad indeed.

Some of the children and 2 neighbour-fathers playing hockey in part
of the garden. Having such a hectic time fighting with the orange
ball, the children needed a break. So what is more relaxing for
children,than showing my quilt "A Gardener`s Journal"!!! It has just
been quilted and bound, now ready to be hanged on the wall. You can
see my 2 lovely Gch in each corner there.

Great,another finished project! I am so glad:)))))
Please look back on my blog soon again: some exciting things on
the go, UFOs and new projects.I`ll show you quick as I can,lol.

is my turn:6 Mug Rugs are almost ready for new owners and more to come.

3 new books? No,not at all on the contrary!

You see,"The Distant Hours" book I showed you yesterday has 670 pages.
So my DH has split the book into 3,copied,glued etc.good work done!!
Great result: much easier,lighter to be holding and carrying about:))))

Notice the super quilting on the backing of my "a Gardeners`s Journal". Not the best colour here on the picture,but a lovely yellow/mustard colour. The quilt has just come back from the quilter, so very soon
I`ll get cracking with the binding. In 1 - 2 - 3 up on the wall, do
you see an empty wall anywhere?? Good question,thought I had the space
but must for sure change things around. Have been longing for the 3 words:"quilted,bound and hanging".Now two to go!! Then one day I`ll post the picture for you to see.

New books and Noah`s Ark:

Two books for me to read, Maeve Binchy is new to me. But thanks
to Terry,another blogger,who wrote about about Kate Morton a long
time ago,I have read her 2 previous books. Kate M. is comming to
Norway sometime this autumn. I could hardly put "The Forgotten Garden"
away. Now looking forward to cuddle up! reading,inbetween sewing and
drinking tea (love the teapot fabric,plans comming up soon)....

At last the Noah`s Ark is up on the wall,took
me some time this!! Should have been finished
last year,then last month,but February 2011
is as good month as any... lol
Had to put the two teddies there,they are
for sure not in the original story,but
looking nice don`t you think:-)
NOAH will soon be added to the OPAM list
on my sidebar.

New Beginnings - Flood Appeal 2011.

I am pleased to see that my envelope has arrived safe. The postal takes
such a long time in reaching Australia all the way from Norway. My name
is now on the sidebar of the Gum Tree Designer`s blog,which means they
have received it. I am glad to be helping.

The contents are almost what Gum Tree suggested. Hopefully soon a quilter
that has lost much/all of her bits and pieces in this tragic and
devastating flood,will find some sort of joy in what we quilters send.

Please check my sidebar for the "New Beginnings" button. I am not very
good in getting buttons alive,so you must go into their blog address.
I am sure they are pleased in all useful quilt items we send.
Gum Tree and others are doing a wonderful thing helping the people in need.

Calender says FEBRUARY!! This means JANUARY 2011 has passed for me as well:-)

My header says it all,refering to my blog should be the "bestseller",
great to be having a big hope....for the time being:)))))))

Decided to count my UFO`s in January and to be honest about the number!
My little 5 year helped me. She could easily count to 100 she said:
1,2 ..... 27,28,full stop,then 90,91,92 then full stop,so 110!! Well,
I decided better to show you as time goes by.No long holiday coming
up,so I am bound to dig into the big UFO box very often.... LOL ....

Noah`s Ark soon to be a wall quilt:

Believe me when I say the fabrics you see have been borders sewn really
properly on,but glad I do have a super seam-riper:)))) LOL. It is as
true as can be..... almost deceided now,so stay with me for some more
days and you will see the result! I have followed Lynette A. in her
stitching patterns,but should really have been log-cabin around each
block. Oh well,tea with some good quilting friends tomorrow and I am
always open for advice:-)

Layer-Cake-Quilt-Along:

I love the fabrics of "Breakfast at Tiffany`s",but I chose the fabrics
because the name was great!! I do wonder what the result of this 64"x80"
fun quilt will look like when finished in about 5??? months from now. Mooseonthepouch.blogspot.com started this group on 2 of Nov, one pattern
every 14 days, exciting actually!

This is my last block,finished a couple of days ago.

I joined a Stitch-A-Long group about a year ago,doing one block a month.
We are a big group of quilters,mainly from Australia,but some also from
other countries all over the world. The group has been organized by
Chookyblue.blogspot.com. Your might remember I have showed you some
of my blocks earlier.

Yes,here it is. Sunday the 16th of January a date to remember for me! Such
a proud feeling showing you:

HURRAH,this is my wall quilt-top,all finished. And YES I have been
working hard for a long time. Chookyblue has given us dates,doing one
block a month. It has been lovely stitching and sewing the blocks one
after the other. Now ready to be quilted. Lovely summer-pattern,
big contrast to the winter I see outside the windows.

Did you know I celebrate 1 year of blogging today:-) and still
leaning and still having sooooooo much I would like to know. Should
have been a big do this,but it has to wait!

Tonight I shall get the envelope filled for sending to the Gum Tree
Designers. They are organizing "New Beginnings" to help flood
quilter who lost everything in Queensland, Australia,and I have

Contrasts inside/outside ........

Working with Summer inside when stitching the sweet 3 ladies of
a Gardener`s Journal and heavy Winter outside!

I finished the stitchery just now,so I had to show you. Although a funny
bend on the blue dress,I like the look of the ladies.
Hopefully I will find a day this week to sew all the small fabric pieces on.
Looks great,doesn`t it:-))) With this one soon done,I have only 1 more
block of the whole quilt-top to do....... quick-quick??

I joined 2 different Christmas Secret Swaps in 2010. One worked perfect
back and forth within the time suggested. The other one took its time to
arrive,blaming the weather! BUT NOW YES,at last they have arrived safe.

First 2 pictures of my Charming Chatter Swap.So glad Monica of Diary
of a Quilt Maven at last received my Seminole Christmas table runner,
as well as the small,little ornament:-)

Before sending the runner on Dec.1. I tried it on my own coffee table.
Looks nice there,so I hope Monica will be pleased.

LUCKY ME,this is what I received on Dec.31 :

Charming Chatter Club Secret Santa is here. An extremely big envelope
arrived safely, containing 12 bits and pieces. Everything soon to be
used. The parcel has probably been caught up in the heavy snow-storms that
blew through Europe last week,remember?, when no planes came or took-off.
I feel very lucky:-)

We have a saying in Norway "den som venter på noe godt,venter ikke forgjeves".
A very free translation:"if you wait for anything nice,soon it`ll be there"!!
Or "All`s well,that ends well"!! Now proved to be so very true!

DINNER on the very first day of 2011 is soon to be served: beef, baked potatoes
lettuce with salad-cream,etc. My DH and I will enjoy yet another good dinner!!!
I am using the present from Cheryl:the snowman table mats and potholders under the glasses for this special first-day-of-the-year dinner.

Love January First of each year; promises-promises, very easy to make lots
of them. I have really many good plans for different quilting projects this
year and I hope to finish some of my UFOs too.

Still Christmas time,but for me a much nicer and
more quiet time than last week,as I am sure for a
few others as well. But I have done little sewing
lately. So after New Year I must get going again.
Maybe make a strict plan to get cracking into UFO-
boxes?!! Or enjoy projects as they come on top in
the box?!!

You see my Nativity here; a Nancy Halvorsen pattern called
"Button-Up Quilts". However I left out the buttons! The string
quilt was started started in approx 2008,just left in the box,
but finished this November. It is my Opam for December 2010 :-)
I am very pleased that I did join. It has helped me in focusing
on unfinished projects that cried out to be sewn!!

This Nativity is bought a few years back. Made by Hadeland Glass Company
and definitely not to play with.

The Nativity in wood here I bought many years ago. Still almost
looking it`s best,although my children used to play
with it when they were young. But almost "no touch" for
my 2 Gch! This one stands in the window in my kitchen.

Cold outside (check the temp in the right hand corner),
everything covered with snow, but pleasant if you dress
properly!(lots of wool,fleece or fur,may be)

The three of us here lay the table for Boxing Day`s family meal.
Tasty reindeer meat with gravy,sprouts,potatoes etc.Everything
perfect on a lovely table setting.Best of all we did not spill
anything on the runner!!

Another 2 angels,tried to be part of our decoration on the table!

We have full winter up here in the north of the globe. Strange it was when I received The Summertime Issue of Homespun today!
We have the most cold and wintry weather at the moment.
But the snow brings a lot of light,super light if I only had
the time to sit down with some stitchery:)))

Winter or Summer, Oh,how busy we all are preparing for Christmas. All around the house here we have Santa's, as well as Nativity groups(picture of my OPAM for December next week) Our big day is in the Evening of the 24. of December.
The parcels for small and ground-ups are placed under the tree.

And on the 24. our family first go to Church, then the big meal
and so we open the parcels.We dress up nicely,all the women in our
family wear their national costume.

We have pork-roast,3 different sausages,cabbage and potatoes. For pudding
it is creamed rice with lovely red blackcurrant syrup. The one that finds
the almond in the rice pud wins the lovely marzipan-pig :-)
Very Norwegian this meal,together with 2 other favorites: lamb and cod -
all depending where in Norway you live. Just so that you know .......

Yes,the snow is so lovely and chalk white.On the snow,just for display,
you see my set of the two log cabin tablecloths that I made last year.
The Santa with skies and poles has been with us for a long time. The
the little log cabin Santa is newly sewn. The Christmas Star flower
has lasted for years.It is -17 out there now. This year,this weekend,it
is supposed to be the coldest Christmas for 110 years!

Seems like the snow fell under! the roof here on "A Gingerbread Christmas",
a Brandywine Design.I made this wall quilt some years back. My daughter got
it as a Christmas-present,and I take care of it for about 11 months:-)

It has been exceptionally cold in this area for some time now.
But with warm clothes and the sun shining bright,things are fine.
Nice view of our next-door neighbour`s garden.

The apples you can spot here,are definitely too late to be picked!

Is this a recipe for you to use?? Easy to use for all Norwegians,
but just use a good translation-book,and anybody will be fine!!!

We have a birch log to put the purple candles into. Some years old,
my DH made it before we got married. We only use it for the 4 Sundays
every year, never tempted to put it in the fireplace!

The 3 different fabrics will be made into a "broken 9-patch"-table-runner.
So I said last year,but this year for sure....very soon ......
Looking for that pattern, as well as for the pattern for the log-cabin-
Santas,remember I showed you some posts ago.
I`m looking and looking,it`s hidden somewhere in the "big box" :))))))

As you all,I also have a very busy time these days.
Usually the same procedure as last year:Christmas-presents,
Christmas-baking as well as Christmas-food.
I have this Christmas-notebook from year to year,which is very helpful:-)

I know that you by now have understood that I love BOMs. Checking the mailbox
every day is great fun:any thick envelopes today??
Some BOMs are resting peacefully in boxes,some in shelves so I may see them.
I am aware of them all and I keep a system ....
I thought you might like to see the three I have recently been working on.

A Tisket A Tasket from Bunnyhill is slowly looking better by the month,
trying to have each block finished by the 1st. The felt snowman looks so
sweet,soon even better looking when sewn,not only vlisofixed:-) Plenty
of time to finish this December-block before the end of the month.The
fabric from the Beachhouse range is warm and interesting to cut in pieces.

I got my very first Christmas-present 2010:

This SSCS is arranged by Chookyblue.I have been checking the postbox
every day,twice! Today was the day:-) A nice cup of tea,some cookies
just watching the envelope for a long time before I opened it.
Excitement inside,I felt almost like a child again!!

Had another cup of tea,finished the cookies,and read thoroughly,not to do any mistakes as the main one should be kept unopened.

Can you all see the lovely ornament: a felt stocking there with my name stitched ever so neatly on it,a lovely written 3 pages letter,cards from her home-town
Cairns.And just check the two cute stocking-labels,
Not to mention the main gift,heavy and soft all together.
I have deceided to put you parcel under the tree this Christmas Eve with all
other presents. In Norway celebrate the Christmas Evening, family+a big meal+presents waiting for us all after we have had our main meal.
Santa usually comes around later at night having more gifts in is sack.

Through CharmingChatter I am attending another swap. I mailed
my envelope on December 1st. Plenty of time to reach my Secret
friend before deadline. It all is very exciting. Lots of preparation,
lots of things to be looking forward to.

I hope that my secret friend on this swap will be just as pleased with
my presents. It really warmed my heart:-)

Well,in a way I spent the weekend with my 7 log-cabin-Santas.
We had a good and busy time with some nice friends.

Yes,at last I finished the tablecloth putting on the big hearts,to cheer it up a bit.
Believe me it looks much better than the picture here shows!!

Sometime,in fact very often my pictures come and go as they like.
I definitely need more education on the matter, so yes very soon,
I hope .... But as you see above I do some sewing in between.

Now over to the busy weekend attending a Christmas Sale Market with 2 quilt friends.
Altogether 9 ladies had filled 12 sale tables in an old,but newly refurbished barn. (Horses and goats were in the new barn).Showing you some pictures taken yesterday.

Great variety for visitors to could buy different sorts of Christmas presents.
I would have loved seeing you all there,but do understand why you didn`t turn up:
blaming it on the minus 10 below C as well as the heavy snowstorm ......
That`s OK,we`ll be there next year as well!

This lovely tree was made last year for a Christmas sale and still works fine. It will be filled with the double of bits and pieces at this years sale. You see,there is a big Christmas Craft Sale on the coming weekend. It is held at "Abilsø Gard" in an old barn. All sorts of crafts,including the quilting part as well.
I`ll be there behind a table,together with some of my Q-friends!

I have had a super time visiting you,some of you have "seen" me!!
I have been to a great 50th wedding anniversary,the gold on that is,checking
lovely dresses,tasty food,horses!! not to mention the lovely weather in that
part of the world.And Tuesday Treasures have lots of lovely items to show.
But this is not all: wrapped in the most lovely pinwheel quilt,Sylvia`s Bridal
and squares put together in a specific way,I attended lots of quilt
meetings,checked bags,ladies smiles and lovely teddies,not to mention cats,everywhere.

All over the world I have been:newborn baby?Grown a bit from last time.
Passed Gracie and then read Homespun 10th celebration were a good
blog friend is in that issue. My quiltguild celebrating 20 years,with
nice prices for the ones that won the "from Old to New". Norway
have a slowly growing quilting interest. ETC.ETC.

I did not miss anything,and I could have gone on and on telling....
Well,dear friends you know where I have been,don't`you.
Yes,visiting all your blogs! A great journey for me :-)

Anyway,abbreviation is in place: OMG,at this end yes many UFOs including
WIPs and definitely WIPMS,some of them are mentioned below. My dear GJ is

and Kelly`s + Joan`s. Well,under the paper here is one,it has been lying
there for sometime ready now to be sent.Would have been lovely to just
rang the bell,dressed in the Santa`s clothes:-) But,well,my first SSCS
will be posted very soon.
The second a wee bit later. Great .... I`m looking forward for Father
X-mas`s knock on my door as well :-)

So glad to have started on November block of aTisket aTasket. Please,please do not ask if I will finish it this month,but will try hard:-)

Month 1 of TINY TOWN BOM is cut and ready to be put on the background fabric,will show you very soon my first block!

My first block of the new LayerCake quilt along is finished,I love the fabric range Breakfast at Tiffany`s.

The Autumn is all around in my part of the world,beautiful colours,fresh air and not yet slippery outside. I have always like this time of the year,surprising a lot of my friends. But to me from way back,I new the lovely white snow and skiing was just around the corner. Still as a really grown up,I have this in mind,though not much downhill skiing anymore!

A Garderner`s Journal Quilt is speedily closer to the finish-line. This is block B of Chookyblue`s "Plan of Attack". You probably remember I have told you before we are
lots of quilters around the world joined in this Stitch Along Group. I have the two last blocks to finish,before it goes to the long-arm-quilter in January. Please check www.stitch-a-long.blogspot.com if you would like to visit and check our group.

Oh,so glad I have come this far:-) "MY GARDEN" is a mystery-quilt from Lynette Anderson,my pattern is sent to me from Quiltegaarden. I am proceeding slowly forward. It most certainly takes time,two blocks behind schedule!! But the small stitchery is so great doing,and may be in no time the two next is done.Of course block 6 is probably just around the corner.

This is the BOM-free pattern from BUNNYHILL more than 1 year ago,so long time finished.I ordered the hole set recently from Fatquarter Shop. I have promised myself to start every 1st of the month. Well, promises-promises,meant to be broken? But I will try! I am using 2 charm packs from Moda,and I have reduced the seize 25%, I love baskets (as well as the song "A Tisket A Tasket")! As I am still working how to do turning-under better,this will be an applique quilt.

Below you can see,I`m prepared. Did you know my DH and I put on weight after last years Halloween? A few children came to visit our house. But big trouble afterwards when we were stuck with lots the goodies. Some were given to the family,friends and to our neighbour next door. But I never learn. Goodies for this year in heaps as well,just in case somebody will ring the bell in Sunday!!!

This is from last year,enjoying the Halloween with the family.Nice when things are put outside! As the rain really started to pour down,we went inside with masks and all.

As long as the youngest are happy,all is well:-) We ended up having a big pizza and coke party!!

I am preparing for Christmas 2010 to come. This table runner was started at a workshop some years back. Last year long before Christmas, I did cut backing and binding,then stopped. This year,HURRAH,ready to be used. My OPAM for October.

This is a finished block of "a Gardeners Journal". Still 3 more blocks to go before the whole quilt top is stitched and sewn. I am almost sure that I manage to stick to the plan that www.chookyblue.blogspot.com arranged.

Check my picture above there,not many months left of 2011. I made this quilt abour 5 years ago.The quilt has 12 lovely pictures symbolizing each month,last 3 up there!

Well, a month`s supply that I couldn`t live without or arrivals from a year back? Well,it is up to you to find out,...not telling you.... All I may say,is that I definitely will be busy for the rest of my life :-)
By the way,the two envelopes there in the front are gifts (lucky me!),showing you the contents another time. And just now waiting for the postman`s knock ,may be more stuff shortly to arrive,lovely :-)

My Garden is slowly growing,looking just as I hoped. After ordering a JR of Evening Mist I think it looks ever so good. And the best thing this will turn out a MINI quilt compared with the bigger ones!!! Well,my Noah`s Ark is also growing,but for sure sailing it`s own way. But soon I`ll show you.

Through Kathrines Quiltestue I put my name down to attend a course with the American designer of Bareroots. Lots of different projects to choose from,one for each day. We were 28 all together sewing like made for two days! Barri was very sweet and patient with us. Somebody were there for all the 4 days,making Christmas projects in felt and wool as well. We had such a great time. New patterns,ever so nice fabrics from Katherine`s shop to be tempted by,not to mention the great lunch that Kathrine made for us.
Lovely,lovely:-) And I also now know the story about the Barerooths name: in very short version -roots growing continuous from nothing-.
My little bag in blue rose fabric there is ready to be used. I definitely struggled a bit,but it was worth it.

We were so lucky as Berri showed us lots of her new and old quilts. As the shop had brought all her patterns,we could just dream of living till 200 to make them all!!!

As always when quilters meet,we had lots of fun.
We just broke up for lunch when I managed to get somebody to use my camera:

On the first one I to be on tiptoe to put an inch or two on my heights,while Barri Sue made some atheletic movements with her knees,so we are of the same heights!!

I love stitching!! And here you see the two famous Australian designers Gail P and Leanne B wearing my two newly stitched aprons!! I started making this long before I knew I would meet the two. It is Leanne`s pattern.I was very proud that they both were willing to be mannequins at the Show and Tell. Picture taken at Quiltegaarden shop,in the ancient town Trondheim. Leanne and Gail held a quilt-lecture/course there, I`m still working my way through all I bought of patterns and fabrics.
Great:-)

I needed something to brighten me up!! And I had this Charm Pack and fabrics from
www.puddleducksquilts.co.uk (don`t know why it doesn`t come up in blue). Really planded this one day after the other. And 1+2+3.... it was done!!
I love the variety of the seasons. At the moment the colours outside are changing very fast here. The Autumn is really on it way.

Busy ... Busy ... enjoyable day by the sewing machine.

Tried it on the tale before I put on the binding,looks nice doesn`t!

Talking about cleaning,I did make this little wall quilt some time ago. It is
an old Art to Heart pattern from 2002.If you pop over to http://cottoncharmquilts.typepad.com /charming chatter you may have a good laugh about lots of different signs.

"Early Birds" - may be -(early birds only used by myself,have not joined): Above you can see some of the fabrics I have used for the projects further down here.
Must admit I have been very slow these days. Usually we talk about being slow/lazy after a long winter,different on my part! I take such a long time finishing this and that at the moment.
But Christmas is far away, isn`t it???! With that in mind,I`ll try my best to give you some more exciting news soon,I hope .....

The needle-case fabrics are from Decadent Victorian from April Cornell with a pattern from Gail Pan. I have used the Cottage Garden Threads,hand-dyed in Australia!
The note-book has a little pad inside and you can see the corners are covered gold!! The fabric is really made for somebody fond of cats :-)

Yes,the one with the two hearts is ready. I uses the Kimie`s pouch pattern. The fabrics are bought at "Quiltefryd",a lovely shop down south in Norway.
The other pouch is made from my stash fabrics. It has been with me a long time, and I am glad I soon will have this finished. Plan to have a mini one inside it.
Behind the fence you can almost see the redness on some of my neighbours leaves, soon yellow as well. I love the autumn colours:-)

Yes! This is it; the Gold of our Woods. September is the months for picking
these mushrooms. That`s to say,depending on the weather,some might even
pick them from end of July. They are called "KANTARELL" in Norwegian and
in Latin: Cantharellus Cibarius. I have picked them since I was a young girl,
having them for dinner is my special treat!

Off into the woods last September. GOLD DIGGING is what we call it.
The whole family always used to go once a year. Picking and looking out
for snakes,moose etc. You never know what comes in you way. Seen none
of either,though.
As you can see,trying to look our best:-)

Lovely look on a wet and rainy day last September.

Please believe me; it tasted delicious (although wee bit burnt,
missed the beetroot and bought in the shop at NOK 229,- pr.kilo!!!

all of us have had her book for years, waiting for the right time to start on the project.

BUTTERFLY GARDEN designed by Leanne Beasley: I am into block 2 and 8 at the moment. Mind you, block 1 and 9 are completely ready,glad to say. But working slower here, I believe I should say a year ahead,may be you`ll see it ready then:-)

Yes,it`s my Jelly Roll Sampler. You might remember I told you I did join the Jelly Roll Quilt Along. Konda at http://moose on the porch quilts arranges this quilt-along. The date for the finished top is tomorrow August 30. I like the way mine has turned out. Glad it`s done,now ready to go to the long arm quilter! Over to bits and pieces from FESTIVAL of QUILTS. There were hundreds of lovely quilts in this exhibition,big variety in style. Here are just 2 of them.

And as usual my pictures jumps as they want to. But I hope you enjoy looking anyway :o) Love the picture from Hilton Hotel down there with Tove and Marit waiving to me.And Berit and I had a good glass of wine with out lasagna,that was just after Astri,Gudrun,Berit and Unni had been shopping in Birmingham. And the other Grethe and Lillian were away celebrating their 9th visit to the Festival :-)

Well,I could not resist showing SOME of my latest this and that from my trip to the Festival of Quilts. 8 of my Q-friends had already made their reservation when I decided to go. Lots of shopping, lots of laughs and lots of pleasure was the ingredients of this trip. I signed up for a new BOM,it is called Tiny Town(may be I don`t have enough to do) through www.antiqueangel.co.uk, AND almost best of all I managed to buy some FQ of Decadent Victorian by April Cornell, I have tried for ages to buy the JR for a long time.

This Festival of Quilts in Birmingham,UK is very big as I said. With many,many lovely quilts to show and many shops to visit. To check that properly up go into twistedthread.com .Just a teeny,weeny bit from me.
And the EQA (European Quilter Association) gave each country a colour many months ago. In that colour a block/square should be made.Each of the countries had their competition among each member,voted for the 9 best ones who then had their block sent to the Festival of Quilts.Here you see the contribution of Finland+Denmark+Norway (sorry Sweden,not all my pics came through).

Crowds were every where. Part of the fun really!!

Yes,YES!!! I am off tomorrow morning to visit the Festival of Quilts
in Birmingham,UK. It will be my 3 year; I try to be there with one year interval. Looking forward to seeing it all :))))).

The little bird soon recovered... with the help of my blue bird!

This little bird flew into the glass door and fainted (my 2 Gch almost cried as it looked dead for a while).Fortunately it got better when seeing the blue bird.

Sara Bolster pattern,sewn by "Quitefryd" in Tønsberg town. I bought fabric and hearts,so very soon to be made .....

Good food on a lovely tables were also part of my holiday.

Outdoor life was great!! Packed in a lovely quilt, reading once more the ending of Kate Morton`s "The forgotten Garden"

Yes;I have finished Leanne`s House table runner,nice and pink,is`t it :)) Firs UFO for August.
One mini block of Butterfly Garden no 2 so far;working hard now to proceed with my own plan(but behind comparing with May-Brit and Hanne).
And block D of a Gardeners Journal is stitched and just waiting to be sewn together with the fabric-bits.

Summerholiday - Big Plans .....

Summer is here!? A little lie actually,for at the moment I think the whole of Norway is waiting for that special time of the year with warm and sunny days,one day after the other. Planning what to do if the rain really sets in.

Yes,I have been packing. This little suitcase was given to me by my good quilting-friend, Berit/"symejl". Not that we are off flying with Bear-line! But in fact we did rent a lovely cottage down south of Norway. Below you can see what has been packed in it to secure me a lovely stitching holiday! May be I`ll stay for a longer time than predicted to finish it all? Time will show,and if you just check me out now and then in the next month you may find out! Please do not be disapointed if I have nothing to show back home again :))

Lovely "A Gardener`s Journal" by Annie Downs at H&P is definitely not forgotten. Never bring the sewing machine along,so I decided to stitch a wee bit during the holiday.

"Butterfly Garden" by Leanne B is also with me this summer. I have really been inspired by Kris+May Britt+Hanne to get cracking on this quilt/stitchery. I have the stitchery for block 2 and block 8 here;just the drawing to do before I can start.

Another lovely stitchery to be done: "Flowers for Erica". When I went to class with Leanne B last year. She showed us this pretty table-runner. I decided it would be a lovely summer holiday stitchery. So in January Sarah of QFD Creative made me a kit. Now it will be this summer`s main stitchery.

Hope you all will enjoy this time of the year. Well, being a whole-of-the-world-blogger, I know some of you really are having the coldest weather of the year.
